5 Life Changing Lessons Writing For a College Campus Magazine
Lessons learned, to take on my journey
- The art of choosing writing material: I've genuinely learned the art of choosing writing material that is relatable and good. I have a better understanding of what is an interesting read. Writing for Total Wellness Magazine allowed me to challenge my brainstorming capabilities because I actively searched for article topics, contemplating what content people would most relate to or wonder about. I happily take this skill with me onto this blog.
- The effect of using lower case for titles and section titles: This style is appealing to the eye. At TW, we used lower casing quite often. I definitely enjoy the simple appearance. It looks good, so I'm going to incorporate it into my everyday life when I can.
- The growth of my creative content creating skills: The opportunity allowed me to tap into my creative, independent and proactive side. The hands on experience did wonders on building a solid foundation for content creation. I had the responsibility of making my ideas come to life, taking a front seat in all of it. I was so familiar with writing essays for classes, and this experience took me out of my comfortable bubble. I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute and grow as a writer in style and voice.
- The introspection and self-work on my writing: In gaining a greater awareness of my sentence structures and writing style, I learned to better construct sentences to work for me. With the help of our editors' constructive comments, I improved ten-folds as a writer.
- Writing a good piece of work is like a puzzle: It requires reorganizing, restructuring, adding and subtracting, effort and time. All aspects inspired my growth as a writer. It also involves others, like our editors who provided feedback, allowing my future work to take new shape.
